We’ve been flooded with lens releases this week. Now that things have calmed down, here’s a roundup with all of the specs and features you need for the ZEISS Otus 100mm f/1.4 ZF.2, Canon RF 85mm f/1.2, and Laowa 100mm f/2.8 2:1 Ultra Macro APO.

    • Focal Length: 100 mm
    • Aperture: f/1.4 – f/16

Zeiss lenses for Nikon and Canon continue to be a favorite of photographers and videographers alike. This is the fourth installment in the Otus line; the first three are the Otus 55mm f/1.4, Otus 85mm f/1.4, and the Otus 28mm f/1.4.

Zeiss lenses are known for their clarity. That said, the new 100mm features an apochromatic lens that gives it exceptional chromatic and spherical aberration correction. The quality this Carl Zeiss Lens provides is further enhanced with the Zeiss T anti-reflective lens coatings on its 14 lens elements. All in all, it’s a lens we’re excited to test out.

The keyword here is “bright.” The new Canon RF 85mm f/1.2 sets itself apart by maintaining high image quality from edge to edge even at its maximum aperture. As you can see from the sample images, this lens is ideal for weddings, portraits, and low-light shots. Like most of the new Canon lenses, this 85mm works well with Eye Detection AF and facilitates fast autofocus.

This is the second Laowa macro lens from Venus Optics. The 100mm f/2.8 is a 2:1 macro lens with comparable size to 1:1 lenses. For those of our readers concerned about background blur, this Laowa lens features a 13-blade rounded diaphragm that helps create the beautiful, creamy bokeh that we’re all searching for.

It’s important to note that this Laowa lens isn’t exclusively for macro photography; its infinity focus also makes it a solid choice as a telephoto portrait lens.
